Worship is what you and I were made for. In the words of Moses – Deuteronomy 6:4-5 NIV Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. (5) Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. We were designed to worship God. God has given us life, and Jesus has re-given us life, now we live (worship) for Him. In the worlds of Augustine, “our hearts our restless, till they find their rest in you.”
Two passages reveal the broad and eternal call to worship. First, as Christians we are holy priesthood with living sacrifices.(Romans 12:1 NIV Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.) And in the startling words of Revelation 14:7 GNB (… “Honor God and praise his greatness! For the time has come for him to judge all people. Worship him who made heaven, earth, sea, and the springs of water!”), we are told that worship will be the dividing line between the lovers of Jesus and those who choose to make it their own way. Worship is giving the Father, Son and Spirit the praise and glory they deserve.
Calvary Road has a contemporary worship service (since 1998) – not blended, not traditional, but contemporary. We believe that music like different languages speaks to the culture that Jesus desires us to reach. For some people (not the people we are trying to reach), this will be uncomfortable, loud, and maybe even confusing. Our worship service includes prayer, music, scripture, testimonies, teaching, and media. We believe that every culture ( and every sub-culture) should hear the message of Jesus in their own language, style, and color! We are committed to sharing Jesus in relevant ways while remaining biblically faithful.
